Punjab-Alberta to Sign MoU in Feb’19
- Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Governments of Punjab, India, and Alberta, Canada to smooth migration of Students.
- Punjab Government will setup a portal for students and would be migrating population to develop skills to meet overseas employment requirements.
To simplify the process of migration of youngsters from Punjab to Canada, Canadian immigration minister Christopher Kerr held a meeting with Punjab technical education, industrial training, and employment generation minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday.
To help Punjabi students aspired for a foreign education from being cheated and misguided by bogus travel agents Hon’ble Minister Channi said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between Punjab government and the government of Alberta, Canada to simplify migration application processes for students on February 7, 2019. Kerr, who looks after migration affairs of India, Nepal, and Bhutan, was accompanied by Rahul Sharma, managing director, the government of Alberta. The Canadian delegation held discussions with the technical education minister in the presence of senior officials of the Punjab government, including secretary, technical education, director, employment generation, advisor, skill development and vice-chancellors of Inder Kumar Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda.
Issues discussed included setting up of a Punjab government portal for students and would be migrating population to Canada in effect to develop skills for overseas employment. Moreover, outcomes of programmes in Canadian colleges and universities and how the Canadian government would support initiatives of the Punjab government were also discussed. Sandeep Kaura, the advisor, Skill Development Mission, Punjab, took delegation members to visit existing skill development centers being run by the Punjab government in Amritsar and Ludhiana.
